‘You can’t sit with us’ said the peace doves to the pigeons.
I make art out of (more or less) common goods and/or everyday objects. Toilet paper, cables, Newton’s Cradle, or in this case; bird spikes and large-scale drawings paraphrasing Picasso’s peace doves.
Ideas or impressions get stuck on my mind much like having an annoying song repeating in your head. The only way to stop it is to actually listen to the whole song, or go ahead and make the sculpture. Then hopefully, having materialized the idea, it will make sense. Not necessarily will I understand the meaning of it (because it might have multiple or none at all) but it will be an obvious, autonomous thing whose existence I don’t question. In the case with the birds there’s a lot going on and I don’t want to favor any reading. All I can say is that I’ve created a monster. Or three.
