Sigvard, 2017
My artistic practice is systematic; with premeditated margin for the haphazard. When working with sculpture I plan each step, sketching out a predetermined course of events which I then execute accordingly. But, as natural forces (such as gravity, melting points, buoyancy and chemical discoloration) starts to influence the process, I’m often met with a choice. That is, whether to work with or against these occurrences. It is at these junctures that I find the essence of what captivates me within my own artistic practice. Everything is process, the process is a struggle, the struggle is real and the struggle is my tutor.
When making “Sigvard” i have used both snow, wax, bronze, the beating of hammers, abrasive blasting and grinding. In the end, it didn’t turn out the way i expected. But then again, that was never the point.
22x24x30 cm, bronze.
