Handprints are traces of time captured in a form of an artefact. That is why I see my work as a document or record, rather than production.

After many years of working as a ceramist, I started asking myself about the meaning and core of ceramics and craft. And the questions led me to focus on the relationship between clay and hands. ‘Hand-building’ seemed to be the perfect technique to explore this theme.

To exclude other factors that may interrupt the dialogue between my hands and clay, I am using the most simple and basic shapes. This helps me to focus on the tips of my fingers during the process. And as an everyday object, the tactility and texture interacts much more with the user.

As the form became more simple, I could feel myself more relaxed and joyful during the building process. I can fully concentrate on the clay, which leads to a naturally relaxed aesthetic.

None of the objects are identical. The peaceful repetitive moments are imprinted on the surface of the objects which make each of them unique. I wish my traces can share my warm moments into your ordinary lives.
