Incidents are unexpected. Resistance can be soft. Intelligence can be collective, and stupidity as well. Responsibility is something that is taken, not given. Trust is given not earned. Mass is power. Bodies are soft.

Soft resistance explores the complicated relationship between mankind and jellyfish; tales of industry and nature, power plants, power struggles and the rise of slime.

Departing from news reports of jellyfish forcing nuclear power plants to shut down because of swarms of jellyfish clogging the cooling water intake, Soft resistance was first created for the now decomissioned reactor hall R1. It has since then travelled and changed form, letting the jellyfish invade new places.

About the artist

Tora Wallander (b. 1991) works with video and installation, exploring mankind’s present and historical relation to nature. The works oscillate between fact and fiction and are based on solid research, where real events and phenomena result in a more speculative narrative. She makes use of a wide range of materials and techniques, often using methods that create illusions when moving between the analogue and the digital. Tora Wallander graduated with an MFA from The Royal Institute of Fine Art, Stockholm in 2020 and has since exhibited at Manifattura Tabacchi, Florence, Bonniers konsthall, online, and Arvika Konsthall, Arvika amongst others.
